Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is a Certified Financial Planner?

“Certified Financial Planner® certification is the most widely recognized professional financial planning designation in Canada and around the world, and is considered the gold standard for the profession. It represents competency, professionalism, and trust, and signals to the public that a financial planner is qualified to provide comprehensive financial planning strategies at the highest level of complexity.” (From FP Canada’s Website)

How do you get paid?

For investments, I am paid primarily via a fee based asset management agreement. This means that my clients pay a tiny percentage of their investments annually (between .5% and 1%). This covers all of the work that I do for and with my clients so they never have to worry about extra costs of doing business with me.

I also do Family Fee Grouping; this means that your fees can decrease as your family assets grow. Ask me for more information about that.

For insurance I am paid a commission from whichever insurance company we use.

If fees are a large concern to you, I’d love to do a fee comparison with your current financial advisor.

Do I need to have a minimum account size to work with you?

No! I love helping people grow, from whatever their starting point. All of my clients receive the same care, big or small.

How are you different from other advisors?

The feedback that I continually receive is that I am down to earth and easy to talk to; I’m not intimidating like some “finance people” in suits. As well, many women come to me because they prefer to work with a woman advisor. I really care about all of my clients and want them to succeed and thrive.

How does your process work?

I have a proven five step process:

  • Discovery – Getting to know you, your situation, and your needs
  • Analysis – Taking the information and problem solving
  • Recommendation – Showing you recommendations that I believe will help you achieve your goals
  • Implementation – Helping you to implement the recommendations
  • Review – Ongoing review and management

Do you work in person or online?

Both! While I love meeting people in person, we can also meet on Teams.

Do I need to be located in the Metro Vancouver Area?

No! I have clients throughout BC, and we can work long distance via Teams. That said, I am only licensed in BC so you do need to live in province.

Can I track my investments online?

Yes! Investia has an online Client Portal and a client app.

What should I bring to our first meeting?

  • Current statements for your savings and investments
  • Credit card statements
  • Pay statements
  • Recent Notice of Assessment
  • Monthly expenses
  • Loan/mortgage information
  • CPP or Pension statements, if applicable
  • Basically, everything related to your financial situation
  • I’ll bring the coffee.
